| First, use a 1/32" drill bit to drill a small hole into
the copper. Drill through slowly so that the drill itself doesn't touch the copper or you will scratch it. Make sure there are no electronics behind the copper or you will damage your pad! In
Dreamcast controllers they do that all the time. If you only have a small copper section exposed, you can also drill the hole right on
the edge of it, since the solder will cover both. |
 |
| Next, insert the wire to be soldered from the
BOTTOM of the pad. |
 |
| Touch the soldering iron to the wire, and copper
connection at the same time. |
 |
| Now push the solder into the point where the
iron touches the wire, this will cause the solder to melt, spreading across whatever
is being heated, in this case, the wire and the copper. You don't need to use very much, just enough to
get a good joint so that you can't pull the wire out too easily. |
 |
| The solder will not go into any areas that aren't being
heated by the iron unless you use too much. Pull the iron and solder away at the
same time and you'll be left with a nice bubble of solder to hold the wire in place.
This will become cool and solidify in just a few seconds. There, on to the
next wire! |
